12 Fun Things to Do on the 4th of July for Kids and Adults

We know how difficult it is to craft a single list of activities that are not disgusting, hot, or white. Luckily for you, we put together this list of 12 fun things to do on the 4th of July so you don’t have to think too long and hard about what you can do.

1. Clean the fireworks

One of our favorite things to do on the 4th of July is clean up the spent fireworks. Fireworks are so pretty, and they are a beautiful symbol of independence. However, they can also be very messy, and it’s not always easy to separate the spent ones from correctly-fired ones.

When the Fourth of July rolls around, it’s easy to get all excited about the fireworks, but we lose track of the mess. While it may be tempting to throw them away, you’ll lose a lot more if you do that this year. Instead, clean them up. Most people will have boxes and bags for this purpose, but you can also use a trashcan to house your cleaned-up fireworks until they are disposed of properly.

2. Do some neighborhood clean-up

There are many ways to spend the Fourth of July. You can celebrate with family and friends or let your inner-civic-mindedness get out of control by volunteering at your local community center. No matter what you decide to do to celebrate the 4th of July, one thing is certain: Independence day is a time for being civic-minded. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean you must volunteer at a homeless shelter or clean up after an oil spill.

You can be active in your community by cleaning up. Get some friends together and pick a street to clean up. You’ll feel great about giving back, and you’ll bring some neat energy to your community.

3. Fly a kite

Yes, you must go outside and walk around in the sun to fly a kite. However, this is one of the best things you can do on the 4th of July. Kites are fun because they’re cumbersome, delicate, and beautiful. They are also gorgeous when they are flying through the sky. It is even better if you live in an area with access to a beach or other water bodies. We recommend bringing a kite down to the beach and getting it flying in the air.

4. Drink water

If you want to drink water, you’re probably not thinking about the 4th of July. However, it would help if you made an exception this year because of all the running around and melting you’ll do during your holiday celebration.

Besides hydrating yourself, drinking water is a great way to stay cool during the summer months. If you’re out in the sun all day, you should drink lots of water to keep yourself cool.

5. Unwrap and re-wrap gifts

You don’t have to wait until Christmas to do this, and you don’t want to do it alone if there is a large group around. However, it’s a lot of fun if you get some other people together and completely unpack one gift before packing it up again.

When you’re done, other people will have a chance to look at the gift before they get to unwrap it. Although this won’t be as fun if there are a lot of gifts, it’s still pretty cool.

6. Play soccer

Soccer is not as popular in the American culture as it is in other areas of the world, but we’re trying to change that. Instead of doing something patriotic, you can work on spreading your love for the world sport. If you have a soccer ball lying around your house, get together with friends and play soccer. You can set up a game of pick-up or have a full-fledged match.

7. Have a party

There are many different types of parties. You can have a camping trip, a backyard barbecue, or a bar-b-que. However, the best part about having a party is that everyone can bring something to offer. It is one of the best ways to bring people together and show that you are more than just friends.

You can even work on making food for your guests before the Fourth of July. If you have any vegetable leftovers in your freezer, you can make sandwiches or open some cans of vegetables to use as snacks.

8. Plan a picnic

Picnics are lovely ways to enjoy the beautiful weather on the Fourth of July. You don’t necessarily have to plan a picnic for Independence Day, but it’s something that you can do in celebration of your freedom.

Picnics are also one of the best things you can do on the 4th of July because you can bring them everywhere. If you’re unsure where to go later in the day, pack your blanket and snacks and head out.

9. Have a barbeque

There are so many types of barbequing that you can do in your life. You can have a backyard barbecue, grill party, or even an outdoor celebration. People will love it no matter what type of party you plan, and you’ll all have something to look forward to. You can even have a few games at the same time as the food is cooking so that everyone can get involved when it’s time for them to eat.

10. Play board games

Many people underestimate the importance of board games. However, board games are something that no one should live without. Board games present fun activities to do with friends and other people. Many board games are great for getting to know people because you’ll have to talk about your strategy before you can play your hands.

11. Clean up sparklers afterwards

The Fourth of July is about celebrating our freedom, but it’s also a celebration of cleanliness and fire safety. Sparklers are fun to play with but should be cleaned up afterward. If you have a lot of sparklers, you may want to clean them up all at once instead of waiting for the end of the night.

12. Do something athletic

You don’t necessarily have to run a marathon or swim across the ocean, but you can do something athletic on the 4th of July. One great way to spend your time is by playing a few games with friends and family members. You’ll be doing something fun for the Fourth of July, and you’ll get to work on spending time together.

13. Plant a garden

This is one of the best ways to spend your 4th of July because it will help you be healthier and give back to your community. If you have some gardening gloves, take them out into the world with you and start planting something in honor of our freedom. You’ll get to work on something good for you and great for your community.

14. Visit a historical site

There are so many different historical sites throughout the United States that you can visit while celebrating the Fourth of July. Many of these sites are beautiful because they were created by each culture that contributed to our freedom. You can learn about the wars and battles our country has experienced and participate in them yourself.

You can celebrate the Fourth of July in many different ways. If you’re going to do something, make sure that you’re using these ideas to keep your holiday celebration fun and entertaining
